Supervalue’s Commitment to Phasing-out Plastic Bags

We have made the commitment to phase out the use of single-use plastic bags in all of our stores, whilst a date has yet to be confirmed, we are actively working towards confirming a deadline.

We are committed to making the transition as easy as possible for our customers and we will introduce new affordable, sustainable options.

While plastic single-use bags will remain at check-outs for the time being, we encourage our customers to bring their own reusable bags into stores. We will be providing our customers updates as we introduce changes.

Robert Smith, Head of the SuperValue Group says “whilst we are yet to specify a transition deadline for SuperValue, we will be allocating a working group to actively source and implement alternative measures for single-use plastic bags to enable us to work towards a confirmed deadline”.

SuperValue has not opted to charge for single-use plastic carrier bags, as this is not the ideal solution for the environment, as it will not remove the use of single-use plastic bags, says Smith.

In the interim, we are currently taking part in a number of initiatives to benefit the environment, including compostable & paper bag trials, paper bags being used for all Click & Collect orders and recyclable meat trays are in use at all stores.

We value our customers and are committed to saving our local shoppers money and helping the planet.
