SuperValue supermarkets have today announced it is targeting to be 100 per cent cage-free in retail eggs by the end of 2025.
SuperValue supermarkets are at the heart of many communities across New Zealand. Demand for cage-free eggs amongst SuperValue customers has increased, and therefore SuperValue has decided to make this commitment in the interests of customers and the welfare of our nation’s hens.
While customers are showing more and more demand for cage-free eggs, affordability is also really important to SuperValue's customers. SuperValue will have a range of competitively priced eggs for its customers.
SuperValue’s Franchisor, Progressive Enterprises, have already commenced discussions with key egg suppliers to ensure the volumes of free range and barn eggs are available to meet future demand. As we move to the end of 2025, SuperValue will increase the amount of cage-free eggs available in store, in partnership with our egg farmers.
Kristy Abbott, Marketing Manager for SuperValue says, “Many New Zealand retailer brands are making a cage-free commitment, and on behalf of our local owner operators, we’re proud that our supermarkets can join this movement, both in the interest of what our customers want but also our nation’s hens.”
SuperValue is the franchise brand of Progressive Enterprises. Progressive Enterprises’ brand Countdown was the first supermarket to announce a cage-free commitment in March 2017.
