Give Local At Your Local Supermarket

This Christmas, FreshChoice and SuperValue supermarkets are encouraging customers to give back to their local community in-store.

Give Local , a campaign supported by community website Neighbourly.co.nz, gives kind-spirited customers an easy way to donate non-perishable food items and health products to those in need. Specially-marked food collection trolleys are in place now at every FreshChoice and SuperValue store throughout New Zealand until the New Year’s Day. All items collected are destined to support local charities such as Salvation Army, community Food Banks and community food collection from organisations such and the Lions Club.

Christchurch-based FreshChoice and SuperValue Brands Manager, Liz de Lange, says New Zealanders have endured some tough times recently.

“There’s no doubt New Zealanders have found themselves on shaky ground again recently,” she says. “Every year we find a way to give back to our communities - and our 2016 campaign is more timely than ever. Give Local is our way of helping and empowering others to give their local charities, who do so much for the community, a boost at this time of year.

“We encourage customers to look at what they are able to afford and pop a few extra items in their trolley to give to the local charity.”

Neighbourly co-founder Casey Eden says the support neighbours showed one another throughout affected communities was “inspiring”.

“We had neighbours using Neighbourly to reach out to one another across the country,” he says. “Over the past couple of years we’ve really seen how find belonging and building strong bonds with others within our immediate community and during difficult times is so important. Give Local is a great way to give a helping hand to others who find Christmas a tough time of year.”
